Rosette Spoonbill

Rosette Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) is a bird of ibis and spruce genus. They are grouped. This species extends west of South America, the Andes.

They are found on Caribbean islands, Central America, tropical forests of South America, Mexico and the Gulf Coast of the United States.

They are 71-86 cm (28-34 inches) long. The length of their wings is 120-130 cm (47-52 inches) body weight is 1.2-1.8 kg.The birds of this species swim in shallow water. They walk or play in the water alone or in groups. They can easily find different aquatic animals from the water.


Rosette spoonbills usually eat marine mammals, aquatic insects, frogs, gossip and very small fish.

The "Ding" Darling National Park in Florida, USA, is the most popular place to visit rosette spoonbill birds. During the hunt for rosette, rosette spunbill birds have to compete with buck or sarus, large-sized, trout, and American white pelicans.

Their lips look like spoons, hence the name Rosette Spoonbill.

Rosette Spoonbill's raft is called Juvenile. They live in tree trunks, or on trees or in mangrove forests. Lay 2 to 5 eggs.

The head of the immature adult bird is covered with white feathers, the feathers are not as bright as the pale, the lips are yellow or pink. As they grow older, their feathers carry a pale magenta color from pale pink to bright. Some predators, such as the Turkish lion, featherless eagle, raccoon and fire ant, are their main enemies.
